Mota de polvo

El denso aire mil veces respirado de la casa se reemplaza lentamente con el sucio aire de la calle; la polución externa se intercambia con la desazón interna, dándole al lugar un falso aire de frescura. Las ventanas ligeramente inclinadas ayudan a que el espacio se libere del olor a cuarto cerrado, pero a su vez permiten la intromisión de partículas de polvo callejero: pequeños fragmentos de mugre que el viento ha recolectado en su viaje sin sentido. El desorden se extiende por todos los intersticios de la casa: la ropa está siempre sin doblar, las cosas descansan como trampas de caza por el piso y los platos sin lavar se vuelven rascacielos de grasa y porcelana. Agotadas por el viaje y arrastradas por la gravedad, las partículas de polvo descienden hacia el piso formando una nevada gris y microscópica, como la lluvia de ceniza después de la explosión de un volcán. El polvo no tiene pudor, cae por todas partes casi de forma homogénea; todo lo tapiza de gris, lo vuelve cenizo, lo apaga lentamente y trata de sepultarlo vivo. La acumulación se nota sobre todo en las superficies, donde con el dedo índice se pueden arar palabras inconexas de auxilio. Solo la acumulación de polvo puede medir la dimensión de mi desidia.

El viento también se cuela por la entrada, a través del pequeño espacio entre la puerta y el piso, arrastrando la suciedad acumulada en el tapete con figuras de Miró que está al final de la escalera, justo delante de la puerta. El aire viaja a ras de piso y sacude el polvo que en dunas se regocija en su inmovilidad, lo perturba, lo desplaza. El polvo se arremolina, gira en circunferencias que concentran partículas que cada vez se hacen más grandes, que recogen más partículas, que en un abrir y cerrar de ojos se convierten en motas: agregaciones mayores, grises, suaves como nubes, y también como ellas, condenadas a los caprichos del viento. El polvo empieza a sepultarme y yo, inmóvil, me dejo tapar instalado en los sillones de mi desidia.

Las motas se mueven a lo largo y ancho del piso arrastradas por el viento, que se cuela por las ventanas ligeramente inclinadas y por debajo de la puerta. Las bailarinas de polvo danzan sobre la superficie del piso un vals de desinterés, la banda sonora del abandono. Les gusta acumularse en las esquinas, en las patas de mesas y sillas, y sobre todo dormir un sueño plácido debajo de las repisas y bajo el colchón de mi cama. Desde la penumbra las veo moverse, crecer, acumularse. Acostado las veo doblegarse al viento, oscilar ante la fuerza del sinsentido, tomarse mi espacio como quien no quiere: poco a poco, sin miramientos, y sin tan solo una pizca de misericordia. Motas a la deriva atrapadas entre mi espacio, condenadas a vivir dentro de mi casa, huellas de mi dejadez, monumentos a mi gran desidia.

Me cuesta levantarme, dejar la suavidad del colchón y enfrentarme al desierto gris que se extiende por el piso de la casa. Me parece difícil sacar la fuerza necesaria para rebelarme a la nube de partículas que me envuelve, para masacrar a la jauría de motas de polvo con la succión eléctrica de la aspiradora, para dejar de consumirme en mi abandono.

Consciente del agobio desencadenado por el polvo y de la pesadez de mi desinterés, limpio de forma frenética todos los rincones de la casa: las patas de mesas y sillas, el tapete con figuras de Miró que está delante de la puerta, los campos de polvo que se esconden bajo mi litera. Me sacudo de la mugre de la calle, me siento de nuevo con fuerzas para buscarme la vida, para librarme de una vez por todas del temporal de polvo, para silenciar la danza convulsa de las motas por el piso de mi cabeza. Sin embargo, el viento se sigue colando de forma irremediable por debajo de la puerta y a través de las ventanas ligeramente inclinadas. Inmóvil sobre mi cama me dejo empapar por la lluvia de ceniza, permito que el polvo se pegue de nuevo a mi piel como escarcha, tiro la toalla y me sumerjo boca abajo en el colchón de mi inconmensurable desidia.

Su primer libro, El confort de la cotidianidad, fue publicado por El Peregrino Ediciones dentro de la colección “Inmigrantes” en 2012. En la actualidad trabaja como investigador en el Instituto Max Planck de Biología del Desarrollo en Tübingen, Alemania, y prepara un nuevo proyecto literario.
