‘Between’

In this autobiographical short, filmmaker Fernando Lara challenges the notion of belonging and gives a glimpse into a life lived between two cultures.

«Between« is a short documentary based on filmmaker Fernando «Nano» Lara’s struggle to identify the culture to which he belongs. The film focuses on the major parts of Lara’s life, from his childhood in Ecuador to his adolescent and adult life in the United States. «Between» challenges the perception of belonging to just one culture and what it is like to live between two different worlds.

Pic NanoBorn in Urcuqui, Ecuador, Fernando “Nano” Lara is an independent filmmaker based in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in film and media arts as well as bachelor’s degree in mass communications in new media at the University of Utah. Lara is the official director/editor for Feel Good Music Coalition, a hip-hop organization in Salt Lake City, and the founder of the independent film production company Fill It In Productions, LLC. His achievements include: official selection for the 2012 Radio From Hell Film Festival, second place at the «What’s Your Muse» video contest at the University of Utah, featured in the showcase PROVOCATIONS in October 2012, nominated for filmmaker of the year by RAW Artists Salt Lake City.
