Santa Fe (Bogotá nightfall)

por Lorraine Caputo

In the damp
         nearing dusk
An old José, an old María
          bundled in ragged woolens
Dig through trash
         set at the curb
They place glass bottles
        plastic         bits of food
In the saddlebags hanging
         from the shaggy body
                     of the donkey
Which noses a sack
          in search
                      of a meager meal.
